1. Who are you?

We are WBOR Brunswick, 91.1FM! We are a non-commercial, independent, college-based and college-run radio station.

2. What does WBOR play?

WBOR is a freeform station, which means we can play whatever we want! Brouhaha. Our emphasis, however, is on independent music--that which you won’t hear on other stations. The genre of music depends on the DJ including (but not limited to) Rock, Hip Hop, Folk, Country, Jazz, RPM, Blues, Metal, Talk, and the generally bizarre.

3. Where can I listen to WBOR?

WBOR serves the greater Brunswick area and coastal Maine. Unfortunatly our transmitter is not the strongest. However, you can regularly get our signal in Brunswick, Bath, Topsham, Harpswell, Durham, and Freeport. We also have (unconfirmed) reports that you can sometimes get us from as far away as parts of Portland, Lewiston, and Augusta. With that said, we are also webcasting, which means you can hear us anywhere on the face of the earth, so long as you have a computer, speakers, and an internet connection. And if you’re reading this, you probably do.

4. Why does the webcasting have so much static?

The signal that is transmitted via the webcast is received via an antenna in the basement of Hubbard hall, an on-campus building. As such, the signal is not the best and there is often static. We are very sorry. We are looking for a long term solution to either improve or remedy the situation. In the meantime, just think of it as us being über-indie.

5. Why isn’t webcasting working for me?

Make sure you are following the directions for webcastingon this site. It still isn’t working, check with some of your friends. If they can connect to the webcast, consult your local computer guru. If not, then webcasting is down, which means you should have contacted the webmaster several minutes ago. What are you waiting for?

6. Why don’t you have commercials?

Because we’re a non-commercial radio station. Isn’t it glorious?

7. Where is the station?

The WBOR studio is in the basement of the Dudley Coe building on the Bowdoin College campus. We transmit from atop Coles Tower, also on the Bowdoin College campus. Directions to Bowdoin can be found here.

8. How can I become a DJ for WBOR?

There is a simple application process to become a DJ. Management picks DJs bi-annually on the strength of these applications. We have a meeting at the start of every Bowdoin College semester to give out the applications and go through the application process. Information as to when the DJ information and application meetings are held can be found in the News section or by e-mailing any of the managers.

9. Will you advertise my band’s show and/or my local event?

Of course! Due to FCC regulations we can’t take any money or services for advertising your show, but the more events we can tell our listeners about the better. That is unless your band sucks. You don’t suck, do you? Regardless, contact the applicable managers to get your show plugged in the appropriate mediums (on air, on site, or on zine). The same thing goes for any sort of local event worth advertising.

10. How can I get your DJs to read my Public Service Announcement

Our Program Manager takes care of all our PSAs. E-mail him to submit your PSA for review and she will decide whether or not to submit it.

11. Can you put a link to my site on yours?

Our Webmaster decides what sites we put on the links page. E-mail him with your URL and a short description and he will consider adding a link.

12. You all suck!

Not a question, try again.

13. Why do ya’ll suck so hard?

You have a point. However, consider this: we are on the radio, playing the music we like. What are you doing with your life? Reading our crappy website. (WBOR: 1, You: 0)

14. You’re lousy FAQ page failed to answer my question. What’s the deal?

The whole “Frequently Asked Questions” idea is really rather contrived, isn’t it? Really it’s just a medium for my wit! And also, of course, to get across information that we didn't have a better place for. So if you actually do have a question and we didn’t answer it, (which, invariably, we didn’t) contact the applicable manager. Our contact information is available here.
