What do you like about running for Bowdoin Track & Field and Cross Country?
What brought you to Bowdoin College?
When you run for Bowdoin, your apart of winning team with great guys who are pushing themselves to be the best runners they can be. Every run is done on amazing trails or peacful country roads. I came to Bowdoin beacuse I wanted a small school where I could get a great education and be apart of team that cared about running as much as I did. And Bowdoin has definitely fit the bill. I enjoy running for Bowdoin because I love my teamates and my coach. There is nothing more fulfilling than contributing to a team that works hard to achieve a common goal. My teamates are smart, serious and dedicated, and have a lot of fun together. My coach works hard at helping his athletes compete to their potential, and works hard at fulfilling his role as an educator. I came to Bowdoin College because it had a strong academic reputation and because I really liked the location, the atmosphere and the food. The professors at Bowdoin are great teachers and go out of their way to help you in any way they can. Brunswick is a beatifull little town with lots of stuff to do outdoors and Freeport and Portland are very close. The students are very freindly, smart and down to earth. And the food is the best in the country! Patrick Pierce '08
Bowdoin track/xc is special because of the close-knit, supportive nature of the team. Everyone is there for each other, and everyone genuinely cares about each others' lives, running and otherwise. Coach Slovenski fosters this environment with his quirky team meetings and weekly pre-race bonfire gatherings, and the captains reinforce it by interacting with all of the team members on, but more importantly off of the trails. I came to Bowdoin because while, like all of the other NESCAC's, it maintains excellent academic standards and offerings and top-level athletics, its students are more relaxed and open to each other than at other schools. When I visited, I got the feeling that while (thankfully) everybody has their own personality/lifestyle here, almost everyone respects everyone else's life choices. That is not to say that they agree with them, but that they do not automatically write each other off simply because of their political beliefs or their friends. Everybody's just chill.Sarah Podmaniczky '08
My favorite thing about running Bowdoin Track & Field is the team. The guys (and girls) that make up the team are among (and have been) some of my most favorite people on the Bowdoin campus. In fact, the very first people I met when I visited Bowdoin were members of the track team and their friendliness and kindness are the traits I found most attractive about Bowdoin - the main reason I decided to attend Bowdoin. I immediately knew I wanted to attend Bowdoin if it was filled with such nice, kind-hearted, and generous people. Joe Adu '07
I like running for Bowdoin because of the great team environment and the excellent support from Coach Slovenski and Coach Kirtland. I came to Bowdoin because it is an excellent liberal arts college, and I knew that I would get a great education here. Bowdoin is a great fit for me because the focus on education and athletics are in a healthy balance and I pursue both without having to let one or the other suffer. Aisha Woodward '08
What brought me to Bowdoin College were the alums who had connections to my secondary school. My teachers and coaches who had gone to Bowdoin thought that this school was a great fit for me because it was a place that I could excell in running, work hard at my academics, and be involved on campus, while having a good balance of each. After visiting campus and learning more about the school, I knew they were right. What I like about running for Bowdoin is that as a freshman I came to practice the first day and felt like I immediatly had a great group of friends! The XC girls are serious, commited runners, but have a lot of fun on the team too. Courtney Eustace '08
I like running at Bowdoin because we get to go off campus and explore different places, like Camden, apple orchards, Bath, Popham Beach, Wolfe's Neck, and other state parks. It is also a great way to get to know a lot of really nice people! Bowdoin has a good English program and a good reputation for its academics, but at the same time it seemed more relaxed and friendly than some of the other schools in the NESCAC. It also has great food, a good location and an awesome track program! Amy Ahearn '08
My favorite thing about running for Bowdoin is the team atmosphere. Everyone is very supportive and inclusive. Everyday, I look forward to the run because I get to hang out with a great group of guys. I came to Bowdoin because I like the community diversity that the campus has in terms of types of people and the different perspectives on life people bring here. Ken Akiha '08
I like running for Bowdoin because we run in pretty places, Coach's "adventures," dedicated teammates, and hard training . What brought me to Bowdoin was the strong chemistry program and the nice people on the cross country team. Kristen Brownell '07
I absolutely love running for Bowdoin, and practice is definitely my favorite part of the day. I have a lot of respect for Coach, and the way that he runs the program. The team meetings, stupid Coach tricks, initiation, spring break trip, and preseason activities all foster a cohesive and close-knit team; however, Coach expects each athlete to bring discipline, determination, and respect to the team as well. I think that Coach makes the Bowdoin cross country and track programs unusual and special, and he sets the example for the camaraderie that the team shares. Coach is actually a large part of the reason that I came to Bowdoin. I also loved the school when I visited and I immediately connected with the campus in a way that I did not connect with any other schools. In deciding to attend Bowdoin I really relied on intuition and instinct. Allie Yanikoski '06
I love running for Bowdoin because all the other runners are really cool people, and it's an awesome social group to be in. I also like how we travel to training spots all around Maine. Our runs never get boring because we're always exploring new places. Finally, I love running for Bowdoin because we have the best uniforms. Who doesn't love short white shorts? The first time I visited Bowdoin was when my family was coming home from a vacation in northern Maine. We stopped by to take a quick look around campus, and even though we only stayed for 20 minutes, I had the vibe that this was the place for me. Other than that vibe, I came to Bowdoin because I wanted to go to a small school where I could know, or at least recognize, most people on campus, where I could become friends with my professors, where I could participate in sports, and where I could eat delicious healthy food. I like running for Bowdoin because of the team. I love everyone on the team and all the coaches. The people that make up Bowdoin Track and Field are the cause of my decision to run track this spring instead of playing lacrosse again. I decided to apply early to Bowdoin because I knew as soon as I stepped on the campus that it was the place for me, I hadn't gotten that feeling from any other campus I had visited. Gina Campelia '07
The Bowdoin track program provides me with a great way to be competitive, build friendships, stay in shape, and of course have fun. Perhaps the best part about being on the team is being with others who share the same motivation for excellence both on and off the track. I was interested in going to Bowdoin as a pole vaulter because of the great facilities and coaches. Meeting the team on an overnight made my decision even easier when I realized how supportive and fun the team was. As a student I was interested in Bowdoin because it was small enough where one could get to know their professors and large enough where I would still be meeting new people everyday. Now that it is my senior year, I can honestly say that my time at Bowdoin has been the best time of my life. John Todd '05
