The Frederic D. Tootell Memorial Award

Presented to the most outstanding competitor in the Field Events.

Frederic Tootell, a member of the Bowdoin Class of 1923, was an Olympic champion in the 16 pound hammer throw in 1924. He was coach of Track for many years, was Director of Athletics for eight years, and served overall as a member of the Department of Physical Education at the University of Rhode Island for nearly forty years before his death on September 29, 1964. An anonymous donor established this trophy in the name of former Bowdoin Coach John J. Magee, in January of 1966. Recipients of the coveted Tootell Trophy are named below:
