Farley Field House

Farley Field House, the home of the Bowdoin Indoor Track & Field teams, was built in 1987. Designed by a committee including olympic marathon gold medallist and Bowdoin alumnus Joan Benoit Samuelson, it houses a 200 meter, 6-lane Rekortan polyurethane track, two long and triple jump pits, two pole vault boxes, and a high jump area. Bowdoin throwers enjoy two throwing circles and a championship throwing net, where athletes practice shot put, javelin, discus, hammer, and weight throwing. The facility has hosted the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on two occasions - 1989 and 1993 - and has hosted several regional championships.

Above the infield is a large skylight, allowing natural lighting for athletes and spectators. Overlooking track is one of the finest balcony seating areas in the nation, where parents and fellow members of the Bowdoin community enjoy watching competitions. They are kept up to date on team scores by a professional electronic scoreboard above the finish line. "Attracting good crowds to our home meets is a top priority of Bowdoin Track," according to coach Peter Slovenski. "We go out of our way to keep the crowd involved so that we will have people who enjoy coming back to our meets." Home track meets include professional announcing, performance display boards at field events, and popular children's relay races in the middle of the program.

Farley also is the home of the Greason Swimming Pool and is adjacent to the Lubin Squash Center. It centers a lighted turf field and 35 acres of grass fields where track athletes train, weather permitting.
