Startup Costs and Revenue
Budget for 2003/2004
Total overhead cost was around $1,500 for tools, seeds and other farming necessities. The Organic Farming Committee received a grant from the Maine Campus Compact and Pew Charitable Trust that brought in $800 dollars to offset the initial startup costs. The startup budget was approximately $6,000 total for the Bowdoin Organic Farm Project.
• Startup Budget: = ~$6,000 (inclusive of preliminary expenditures and the operating and capital budget for the year).
• Operating Budget: Seedlings and seeds (estimated at $500), wages for student farmers at $2,500/farmer and in the future manager at $10,000/year
• Capital Budget: new equipment, hoop houses, etc. Estimated cost: $2,000-3,000.
Revenues 2004
The garden produced over $12,000 worth of vegetables, with $1,500 worth donated to the soup kitchen and an additional $500 to the Bowdoin Outing Club. The majority of vegetables were delivered to the Dining Halls on campus.

• Wages: $15,000 for one manager and two interns
• Capital Budget: $3,000 for hoop houses, watering system (hand pump, hose, tank), shed
