Perhaps I should have said "A Call To Arms"

I guess I misjudged reactions. The majority of attendees at Sunday's meeting were quiet possitive in their reception to this idea. With such a large membership and minimal turnouts at meetings, it is easy to take the initial reaction as indicative to the final.

Still, I see little substance in the arguements presented so far. The houses have, will, and must continue to evolve. Their best days are ahead of them, possible many years ahead. As I said at the meeting, these should be symbols that will stay with Howell far into the future, possibly for the complete life of the organization.

"We envision the possibility that over time, each of these Houses will develop a distinctive tradition and identity connecting students across class years and to the College." -- Interim Report of The CRL

I guess that someone has to explain to me why adopting a set of identifiers is exclusive, eletist, or supremist. We're not going to be hiding behind it. We're not going to hoist it up to the roof saying, "Now we have this symbol and you can't belong to our group." We're not going to use it to exert power over anyone. This is something to use instead of always having to write out "Howell House". How much would I have liked a logo when designing t-shirts last summer, instead having to resort to a fancy font. When I come back for my 25th reunion, I doubt they'll still be using the same font. But a well-thought-out, for-the-ages logo would still be in use.

"It is hoped that alumni also will identify with the Houses ... as former House members." - Interim Report of The CRL
