: While I agree with the fact that some houses may be better to acquire than others due to more central locations, we should not be looking a gift horse in the mouth. Getting a house is important to Howard for establishing a presence and identity in the Bowdoin community. While a more central location would be optimal, it is highly unlikely. The house and house location should make no difference in Howard House itself. Rather, the programming and individuals in it should be what makes the house great. Any house Res Life gives us, we should more than willingly accept and be happy to have. Any house is better than nothing- a strong foundation begins with strong people, not the "best" house.
I have to agree. We have been waiting for a house for sooooo long, we need to watch our steps now that we are so close. I think if we refused AD, we would come off as being unreasonable and high-on-mighty. And for practical reasons keep in mind AD is in great shape and needs only minor work compared to the other houses. Bowdoin will have no more than 2 months to complete any renovations. "ME" is correct - it's the people and the ideas that define us, and as long as we have a house with SOME space to hold events it's better than not having anything. I think that next year's house leaders will transform any house into a warm and welcoming place over time. And yes, I think we should tell Bob
what color we want the walls, but *AFTER* the papers are signed.
