To Whom It May Concern:
Howard House has decided to proceed with "Singled Out" this year. Here are some reasons why we came to this decision:
Howard House has struggled with an image problem these past few years. Singled Out was one of our most popular events last year, helping to gain popularity throughout the campus. We hope this to be the case again this year because we don't want to be seen as "nerds" on campus - even at the risk of offending a few people.
Also, even though we know that inviting same-sex pairings truly would not work on this campus because of fear of reprisal, this is not our problem because we do not intend for this to happen, so we'll ignore that factor and claim no responsibility. We feel that same-sex pairing was a fair compromise, even though we know it wouldn't work.
We also feel that this is a case of PC being taken too far. We feel that, regardless of what actually may be true, Singled Out should not be seen as offensive to anything or anyone. In addition, in our version of Singled Out we are not nearly as offensive as Singled Out was on MTV, and because it is different, any association that would be made between our event and MTV's is not our responsiblity.
We have one last comment to the offended party: Next time, please try to gather more support. Because only a few people are offended we feel that we should go ahead because of the above reasons. If you could just gather more support perhaps we would reconsider. Better luck next time.
Sincerely,
Your Friends at Howard House
