I am sorry to hear about the decision of Howard to cancel Singled Out. I feel that this is a case of
PC taken too far. Singled out is based on a television program which was fairly popular. It's
adaptation to a campus event should not be seen as offensive to anything or anyone, lest it be
some imagined slight. The the Howard leadership team decided to cancel on of its most popular
events pains me. Howard does not need to have more milk and cookie parties, we need things
that get us in the public eye and move us away from the typical "nerdiness" that seems to be
associated with Howard in general. This is view is not something that I think the members of the
house subscribe to, but is a view that I feel fairly confident is well represented on campus, though
not always expressed. I realize a decision has been made and that nothing I say here will change
anything. I only wish to express my final view on the matter. I had hoped that Howard would
stick to its guns and proceed with one of its more popular events. I am greatly disappointed that it
did not. Hopefully in the future such will not be the case.
Sincerely,
Erik Woodbury
