Howell House Minutes,
Eleventh House Meeting 11/12/00
I. In the Beginning
A. Owen's Welcome
B. Midweek Recap and future Midweeks: Jen did rootbeer floats last
Wednesday. Not that many people showed up since it was a busy week, but
it was a job well done. ^_^ Emily will be doing this weeks...more details
on that to come!
C. Animal Shelter Recap, Stacey: Currently looking into a change of
times that will work for more people.
D. IM Games: Quinn said that Hockey lost their first game, but it was
still awesome because about 25 people showed up. Howell basketball is fighting
it out tonight, and results will come on that later. Talk to Owen for details.
E. Justin's Recap of Howell House's first Affiliate Dinner: It was
WONDERFUL!! We're looking at bringing faculty
in for our dinners in the coming weeks. The first house dinner was fabulous,
so consider coming and joining our new weekly tradition by signing up for
the next one by e-mailing Justin: jwatras. Board is transferred; our next
one will be Wednesday evening this week as opposed to Thursday.
2. Pressing Issues
A. Treasurer's Report, Liz:
Minus the Sodas we bought for Boody's Holloween Party, and not including
the most recent midweek receipts, our current total still hovers at $1,980.51.
B. Programming:
Quinn has made out calendars of the plethora of house events coming
up, many of which should get you tingling for the holidays. Included in
the list are Brendan and Justin's Football movie blitz, Affiliate Movie
Night, and Holiday crafts classes. Nada cocktails is approaching and is
scheduled for 12/1. The Friday after that is open, so if you have any suggestions
e-mail Quinn. 12/10 will be the date of the exciting Holiday Soiree we're
all hyped about, so mark your calendars. Quinn received an overwhelming
response for the Adopt-A-Family program, so we are looking into working
with 2 families!! Thanks to everyone who responded.
C. Mellon Grant: New Ideas included bringing in Frank Oz (who did the
voice of Miss Piggy and Yoda), the first President Bush who is only a ways
away in Kennebunkport, and Governor Angus King.
D. Howell T-Shirts, Liz: After a small debate on what where we should
set T-shirt prices/how much we should subsidize, we decided on $8 as the
price with Howell footing $2.
E. Ping-Pong Table: Brendan says the issue is coming along...no worries
F. Composite: Phil said there is nothing new on that yet, and the major
question that's been lingering for the past few meetings has been regarding
who will do the printing. We decided that we desire photographs in matte
frames for our end product, and the "shoots" will be happening this Saturday
at 2 pm. Note: The Composite will consist of photos of house residents
only.
G. Spring Programming Plans: A committee was formed at the previous
house meeting, and after meeting up they decided that we should opt for
a version of "The Dating Game," set it around Valentine's Day, and seek
support from the other houses in planning it. We plan on utilizing approx.
$200 or more depending on how much backing we get. The move to go for it
passed with a majority of 19 votes and 3 abstensions.
H. House Community Service and Academic Programming: Owen threw out
the idea of bringing in talented solo student musicians from the community
to play at the house, and the general consensus seemed to be in favor of
throwing these events on a regular basis. As for community service, the
animal shelter seems to be our focus, and though we are proud of it let's
start raking in more committed people ^_^
Other Issues Not on the Agenda:
-Nada Cocktails: Hesper proposed that we devote $250 to the annual
Nada Cocktail party, and all of this will go to decorations, lights, food
and drinks, and supporting BOCA to come perform for us. The motion passed
with a majority vote of 18 votes and 4 abstensions.
-House meeting attendance, sadly, has dwindled down in the past couple
weeks. (We're even missing house leaders). WHAZZAH with DAT??? As we understand
that these weeks are busy, we would like to invite everyone to continue
coming and keep the house spirit alive as the winter gets drearier by the
second. Thanx!!
