Minutes, Howell House Meeting
Sunday October 1, 2000
THE NITTY GRITTY
A. Owen's Welcome
B. Apple Picking, led by Justin W. had a great turnout despite
the late notice. Yeay!!!!!!!
C. The last Midweek, Tenley. Nice turnout, though she made the
food but couldn't be there!! Cheers for Tenley!
D. Animal Shelter, Stacey and Emily. Tasks will extend beyond
working with the critters to non-animal related things, so you can still
help out. Contact either of them for more information.
E. Intramural Soccer Games. Hyde lost the last game, but no
one is about to give up yet...the more out there, the better--the same
for Howell too :)
F. Anthropology Project, Amanda Boer. Amanda is doing a comparative
study of the social houses, and with our permission will be sitting in
and observing our house meetings for an extended period. In addition she
will be interviewing several people involved with the house. She happily
stayed for this one as her first.
PRESENT AND FUTURE
A. Treasurer's Report: We suffered no major losses this week.
(Phew).
B. Constitutional Amendments, Brian: forwarded the amendment
proposal to the IHC regarding the issue of a name change for our house
(Howard-->Howell). We voted and it passed with a majority of 20.

how/when?
F. Howell Initiation, Brian: the Howell Initiation, which was
previously cancelled, has been rescheduled for the 21rst AFTER the Howell
House Dedication. Everyone come please...we recommend semiformal wear for
this occasion.
G. The Mellon Grant, Owen: We have received a chunk of money
to encourage academic pursuits through by inviting various speakers to
come to campus. A grant committee has been formed, consisting of first-year
reps Ali and Colin. The meeting for the Mellon Grant program was held Mon
10/4, and we will be hearing more soon
H. Programming.
a. Shenique, the upcoming Talent Show: Shenique
reported that the SAFC has agreed to provide for this event in the way
of staging, food, and setup/cleanup, while the A-Board is willing to provide
for the lights and other equipment. A contribution of $300 is pending,
but on top of this support from the houses is also needed. Howell voted
to contribute $50 to the event, which will give people from the house a
spot on the judge's panel. The event will be held Saturdaym November 11
at 7 pm in the Smith Union.
b. Programming Chairs' Report: Michael Kelsey
is being put on hold till December, but in the meanwhile Stacey, Katie,
and Quinn have been cooking up a hodgepodge of stuff:
-Parent's Weekend: Friday Night Bonfire
-Kid's Fair on Sat 10/21, every house will have a booth and we're thinking
about doing face painting :)
-Burnett Haunted House
-Oksoberfest
-Toons and Treats will happening on Friday!
-Hyde Calendars for Howell Events will be up soon. ^_^
-Pizza for Proctor groups, here in Howell
I. The Howell Composite: at the time of the meeting, the issue
was still pending, but presently we have the info we need. Talk to Brian
if there are any questions
J. Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Justin M. : It has been decided
that involvement of some kind in this community service program will be
our collective "Howell House project," or a cause that's entirely ours
as a house. The plan is for volunteers to go and work with students as
mentors at the Hawthorne and Longfellow schools...poss. Mondays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays. Big brothers are in high demand so volunteer if esp. if
you're a guy!
