Howell House Meeting
Minutes, 2/4/01, 8:00pm

1. Professor Dinners: starting soon, Christine and Phil will work with
Justin on this.
    --e-mail ccaron2 or psharp with professor ideas
1.5. House Ownership committee report (Phil): recently talking about
relationship with security and facilities; houses need to report
incidents to security; facilities doesn't want students painting rooms,
but possibly have a choice of chosing of 5-6 colors for the room each
time repainted. e-mail psharp with opinions.
2. Notes N' Folks: 1st performance will be professors Shafner, Staples
and Thompson from the Psych dept on Feb 23rd 4pm ish (Kid).
--Group working on scheduling future programs, possibly alternate
students/profs each week (Stacy, Owen, Emily, Jen, etc)
3. The Dating Game: THIS FRIDAY, Feb 9th in the pub, we need more
contestants, talk to people, e-mail Brendan (bhalliss) to enter or for
info. Jill is hosting.

4. Hollywood Squares: (Quinn)--no report, but the word is out and other
college houses like the idea
5. Midweeks: Katie has schedule, Feb is taken care of.  If you haven't
signed up for a midweek yet, see her--the schedule is on her door.
--Emily is doing this week's midweek in Hyde.
6. Michael Kelsey: March 1st. Stacy has been able to get $200 from the
junior class, and is still working on the other classes and the A-board.

7. Treasurer's Report: (Liz) The official statement from Dave is that we

have $3,724.25, but we have lots of programming coming up, so we should
be able to spend it.
8.Programming Chair Report: Katie--Masque and Gown wants to have staged
reading of plays, suggestion to use Howell for location, no objections,
probably once a month or so on sunday afternoons, we aren't planning it,

but may help out a bit with refreshments.
--Ski trip, not enough people, so we will go on feb 25th, Bowdoin ski
day, cheaper prices--Katie will send out an e-mail.
Stacy--Snowtubing moved to Feb 17th b/c of winter's weekend.
--Animal shelter will start again this weekend, Fri 2-4pm, sat and sun
10-12, for help with painting this week.  Stacy will send out an e-mail
to the alias, if you want more info, contact her at sbarron
9. Proctorial Minute (Justin): gift from Hesper.  plug for res life,
apps due wed., house leaders coming up soon (info week will be week of
feb 12th).
--How to decide who comes to Gov King's dinner? suggestions: reception,
do a show up to sign up at the meeting and then do a drawing from there
10. Scrabble tourney: (Brian) Tenley will help:  this sat 2pm, $75
approved for prizes and $25 approced for food. anyone have extra
scrabble boards?  e-mail bcalabre
11. Insignia (Phil): Howell needs a motto, crest, colors etc. Phil will
seek ideas, and people to work with. e-mail him at psharp
12. Prof McMahon: when is she going to come: Emily will talk to her.
13. We will be voting on a new house secretary next week. Phil and
Christine are both running.

OPEN FORUM:
--Justin M: Big Bros/Sis--Bowl for kids sake on April 1st:
Howell will sponsor two teams at $100 a piece, approved by an
overwhelming majority.
The eight bowlers are: Margaret, Jen, Lauren, Emily, Justin W, Brendan,
Claire, Stacy
--Lynn: suggestion for formal campus event at Howell: Root Beer kegs?
needs to
come up with more finalized figure on cost.  House supports idea.
--Aurelia: Let's have a dance contest! (might be our winters weekend
event--fri feb 23rd night)
