The College Houses
The College House System was conceived and begun in the spring in 1997. The Commission on Residential Life (CRL) proposed the house system as a replacement for the fraternities that had controlled the college's social life for 150 years. The CRL has been established in the summer of 1996 to examine the relationship between residency, social systems, and academics. In February, the CRL recommended abolishing fraternities in place of a more open and inclusive system.
Following are the key documents of the College House System. While not the most interesting readings, they provide the necessary background to understanding the motiviations, anticipations, and workings of the college houses.
