The mission of the Bowdoin Forum is to encourage the Bowdoin community to explore international affairs.  The Bowdoin Forum realizes this mission by sponsoring campus events related to international issues and through the publication of this journal. This publication provides students, faculty, alumni and friends a literary forum to share thought-provoking work and extend the campus dialogue of international affairs to our readership.

The Bowdoin Forum, a compilation of student, faculty and alumni submissions, is Bowdoin College’s first student-run academic journal. This year’s volume features a special non-alumni contribution from former chief of staff of the State Department, Charles Hill. Ambassador Hill visited our campus earlier this year and his contribution reflects the content of his remarks. This volume also features an article by Professor of Economics David Vail, as well as student articles authored by Tim Mathien, Meghan Tierney and Steven Postal.

            Volume VIII

The Bowdoin community extends far beyond the confines of the campus, and it is our wish to include the greater community in the rich dialogue on international relations that our students enjoy. It is our sincere hope that this conversation will spread throughout the libraries and homes of our readership. If you have any questions regarding our organization, journal, or how to subscribe, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at forum@bowdoin.edu.

Students, faculty and alumni interested in submitting to a future issue of the journal are encouraged to contact the Forum Staff at forum@bowdoin.edu.

Students interested in joining the Forum Staff, Board of Editors, or Events Board may contact Megan MacLennan at mmaclenn@bowdoin.edu.

In the 2004-2005 year the Bowdoin Forum sponsored and co-sponsored many events and hosted a number of guests at the college including Kenneth Pollack, Director of Research at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy and Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, as well as Ambassador Paul Bremer.
