Mission - The Bowdoin chapter of Habitat
for Humanity works with the community to provide affordable
housing to low income families. In addition we strive to
increase awareness surrounding the issues of homelessness
and affordable housing.
Volunteer Experience -Volunteers
provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors
provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Bowdoin
volunteers with or without prior construction experience can
sign up individually or in groups to help out on select build
days. Food and transportation to the site is provided. Volunteers
are also needed to raise awareness on campus through fundraisers
and other campaigns.
Membership - The campus chapter is directed
by 2 student co-presidents, with a core group of 5 committee
leaders. When building we need about seven volunteers each
week to help complete the houses.
History - The Bowdoin College campus chapter
of Habitat for Humanity International was established during
the 2001-2002 academic year and has worked with the local
Bath-Brunswick affiliate on providing low-income families
with affordable housing ever since.
