Brunswick Junior High Mentoring Program - The Mentoring program pairs a middle school student (grades 6-8) with a Bowdoin student who is willing to guide, advise, assist, cheer on the student, and most importantly be his or her friend and role model.

Mission - Mentors strive to help students organize their classwork, improve their school performance and attendance record, help foster feelings of self-worth, and serve as a friend and positive role model.

Volunteer Experience - Mentors meet at the school with their mentees for one to two periods a week during school hours. They may help with homework and special projects, discuss favorite books, sports or movies and play games.

They are not expected to simply be a tutor, but to develop a relationship of friendship and trust. Each mentor’s role will develop as she or he and the mentee begin to meet regularly. Through the support of the ongoing relationship a student develops a more positive self-image and self-esteem, both essential to learning and crucial in developing self-control and responsibility.
