Becoming a Craft Center Member gives you 24/7 access to the studios. Student Membership is $25 per semester, Faculty/Staff Membership is $50 per semester. Members receive a discounted class price! To sign up for membership, please contact Bonnie Pardue at 725-3902 or bpardue@bowdoin.edu.

Beginning Wheel Throwing
Mondays, February 8-March 1, 6-8pm
Bonnie Faulkner will teach beginning students how to throw pots on the wheel. This 4 week class will allow students to form pots, use underglazes and overglazes and learn the basics of pottery techniques.
Glass Jewelry
Wednesday, February 10, 6-7pm
Fused glass jewelry is one of the most popular jewelry techniques going! You will be able to make a necklace and a pair of earrings during this class. You’ll be impressed with what you create!
Basic Sewing
Wednesday, February 10, 4:30-5:30 & 6:30-7:30pm
Get the basics down! Need to hem that pair of jeans? Fix a hole in the seam of a skirt? This class will teach you the basics of operating the sewing machines at the Craft Center.
Wood Carving
Thursday, February 11, 7-9pm
Local artist, Robert Matthews, will engage students in a new offering at the craft center. Using chisels and woodworking tools, Robert will teach you how to carve a wooden sign with your name or other message.
The Me Book
Friday, February 12th, 4:30 to 6:30pm
Are you woefully single on Valentine’s Day this year? Or do you just need a chance to slow down and think about what makes you, you? Come to this scrapbooking class designed to inspire some creativity and innovation in the way you scrapbook about your life. Why not make a page devoted to your favorite candy bar? Or write about your favorite distraction from paper writing? We’ll make a mini book with scrapbooking prompts that hone in on small little details about who you are. You will find yourself making cloth beads in this class with Lonie Ellis. This fun an unique way of making beads will entice you to make or gorgeous bracelet of necklace. Using many different paints and decorative techniques you won’t even think they are cloth when finished!
Find Your Groove!

Did you know that there are many different styles of scrapbooking? Come to this class to learn some tips and tricks to streamline your scrapbooking so that its easier to scrap in your style! Then, use what you learn to put together a life soundtrack—if your life were a movie, what would be playing in the background? Some time during this class will be devoted to discussing which songs you’d want to include; then we’ll scrapbook an album booklet that you can use to accompany your soundtrack. Everyone will leave with a self-designed and scrapbooked album booklet, a CD case, and a blank disk so they can run home and complete their soundtrack! Jet Setter Part I: Turn a Normal Old Photo Album into an Inspiring Travel Log!

Are you traveling somewhere special over spring break? Have you been hoping to scrapbook your travels from last summer but haven’t gotten around to it? Come to this scrapbooking class designed to show you some tips and tricks on how to create a great travel scrapbook with just a normal photo album. Special attention will be given to “pre-design”—designing a travel book prior to a trip—but scrapbookers of past and future travel are both welcome! Lonie Ellis will guide students through the fun process of making your very own mosaic mirror. Using glass chips and glass globs, you’ll make your own unique design for these fabulous mirrors! Grouting included!
Felting (wool)

This class with Lonie Ellis, will have you designing a felted masterpiece! Using colorful sheep wool, you’ll create either a 2D or 3D design…how about a fleece egg?
Stained Glass Sun-Catcher

Add a little bling to your sunny window by making a sun-catcher with colorful bits of stained glass! Basic soldering and glass techniques will be taught. Perfect for any level of glass enthusiast!
Jet Setter Part II: Pictures Make It Perfect!!!!

Do you have photos from a recent trip? Or a study away experience? Come perfect an album celebrating your experiences in the Craft Center! You can make a beautiful and crafty log of your trip in less time than it would normally take by using a “dime-a-dozen” photo album. You’ll do it with great company and satisfy your creative bug all in one class! Jet Setter Part II is designed to be taken with Jet Setter Part I but both classes may be taken individually. These clay tiles will look great hanging on your wall at home or in your dorm! Lonie Ellis will teach you different techniques for making sculptural relief marks in your clay. The sky is the limit with your design!
Birds of a Feather

Mother’s Day is coming up! Before you get too busy with spring activities and stress, come to this delightful class and make a framed family tree using scrapbook paper. Make little paper birdies (one for each family member) and nestle them on the tree branches! Or make an alternative family tree; is your mom really involved in sailing? Make a framed fleet of sailboats! Everyone will leave this class with a completed 12×12 framed family tree that he/she designed! What a wonderful Mother’s day gift for mothers and grandmothers! Calligraphy 101

Bonnie Faulkner will teach you the basics of the “art of beautiful writing”. Using a variety of calligraphy nibs and tools, you’ll get an introduction to the “italic” style calligraphy lettering.
Campus Scrapbook and Photo Exchange

Isn’t Bowdoin’s campus gorgeous?! Come beat the mud-season blues this year with this new scrapbooking class. Design a mini album devoted to campus photos! What a great way to capture and keep the Bowdoin beauty long after you’ve graduated! Do you have a favorite photo of icicles hanging off of Hyde or of a unique perspective of the oft-photographed Hubbard?
