Children's After School classes 2009

Classes are for children ages 5-12. Pre-registration is required. Contact Bonnie Pardue at: bpardue@bowdoin.edu or 725-3902. $20/Bowdoin Children, $25 otherwise.
Classes are held from 4-5:30pm.

October 14
Leave It To Books-Students will create a colorful accordion book of autumn leaf patterns using a gel-print method. Several leaf types will be investigated and printed. Instructor: Bonnie Faulkner

October 21
The Great Pumpkin-Papier Mache will be the focus of this lidded pumpkin workshop. Students will make a pumpkin structure and then enhance it with paint, found objects and a ghoulish grin! This class is 2 weeks, also meeting on 10/28. $40 Bowdoin children, $50 Other. Instructor: Rose Nelson

November 4
Mosaic Madness-Lonie Ellis will guide students as they arrange bits and pieces of mosaic shapes to create unique and interesting items like a picture frame, mirror or little sculpture!

November 18
Mirror, Mirror On The Wall-A fused glass mirror in your hall! Everyone loves to take a glance in the mirror now and again…this time make your own mirror using bits of colorful fused glass pieces. Instructor: Bonnie Faulkner

December 2
Pillow Pals-Soft fuzzy fleece will be the main focus of this fun workshop. Students will cut out, sew, tie and stuff their very own fleece pillow! Warm up with Lonie Ellis who will teach you to do all these wonderful fuzzy things!

December 9
Snow Star Mobile-Back by popular demand! These magical beaded snowflake mobiles are fun and easy to make. All you need is a bit of colorful creativity and a bit of whimsy to make these mobiles long to dance in your window! Instructor: Rose Nelson

December 16
Little Elves Candy Camp-By far one of our most popular workshops! Children will make and decorate all sorts of candies, treats and munchies and also make their own boxes and containers for gift giving. Perfect workshop for someone with a sweet tooth!


Instructors
Lonie Ellis is an artist from Topsham, Maine, currently working in clay and fabric arts. Lonie is currently teaching open art studios in Topsham schools. Lonie continually explores various elements in her chosen medium to incorporate new ideas for her students.

Bonnie Faulkner is an artist from Yarmouth, Maine, currently working in fused and stained glass. She has taught art in both public and private schools throughout Maine and brings a lifetime of experience in the arts to each class. Bonnie exhibits her work through several galleries in Maine and New York City.

Rose Nelson is an artist residing in Brunswick. She is primarily a painter, but recently has discovered a love for cutting, pasting, and collaging. Rose has worked with children in private and public schools for the past 8 years. Her greatest joy is in encouraging children to explore their inner artist.
