Mini Craft Camps for Kids - Summer 2010

Tuesday, June 29th-Thursday, July 1st

9 to 11am: Clay Date: Make a Plate!

Your child can be Picasso for the week! Using plate forms, students will manipulate slab clay and decorate the surface of their plates with faces, animals, or anything they want!!!

1 to 3pm: Sunny Sky Supplies: Gear Up for Summer!

Are your children jazzed about the season of sun? Make sure they are well out-fitted! Students will make board games out of beach towels and other summer accessories for lots of perfect beach-going gear! Each child will be able to personalize their projects with great doodads!

Tuesday, July 6th-Thursday, July 8th

9 to 11am: A Paper Mache Parade!

Your child’s imagination will come to life in this puppetry course! Each child will create a whimsical puppet with paper mache heads and fabric bodies—a playful fun class!!!

1 to 3pm: Dishes Wishes: A Camp for Clay Bowls

Children will make a slab bowl and decorate with slab elements and glazes. By the end of this class your children could be eating their ice cream out of the bowl-body of a fire-breathing dragon or from the mouth of an orca whale!

Tuesday, July 13th-Thursday, July 15th

9 to 11am: Gel Printing and Book Making

Using gelatin as an ink surface, students will use found objects to create their colorful prints then make unique books!

1 to 3pm: Hello Jell-O!

Hello Jell-O! Don’t be mellow! Be orange, green, blue, and yellow! Children will make a variety of colorful gelatin art—some that can be hung on their walls, some that can be eaten, and even some that will bring suds to the bathtub!!! This exciting and educative class will introduce them to many new ways to use a common grocery store purchase!

Tuesday, July 20th-Thursday, July 22nd

9 to 11am: Click, Capture, and Crop: An Introduction to the Self-Portrait

In the first session, all children will receive their own disposable cameras to snap up a storm! Then using lots of great craft supplies and their favorite self-portraits from the day before, kids will matte and frame their favorite shots with all the artistic freedom in the world to make their images pop!!!! Basic photographic terminology will be discussed but mostly, kids will just have fun taking great photos and decorating their mattes!

1 to 3pm: The Crafty Chef

Using safe tools, kids in this class will learn simple techniques of cooking and food preparation in the first session. Then, every child will have their own treats and chef hats to decorate! Attention will be paid to the importance of proper cleanliness and sanitation while cooking but this will not get in the way of proper culinary mess-making!

Tuesday, July 27th-Thursday, July 29th

9 to 11am: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Bits of clay and glass will enhance these mosaic fun and reflective mirrors! Children will come up with mosaic designs from examples of ancient Roman life.

1 to 3pm: Paper Prints with New Approaches

Has your child ever made a print using rubber-bands? In this class, children will explore a new approach in printmaking each day! Colorful wall art, greeting cards, and collages will abound. After this class, children will long be inspired to consider how they can represent their worlds through printed media!

9 to 11am: The Artist’s Bag

Your children will explore the application of fabric paint and sun-dyeing techniques to make artists’ bags for all their precious in-progress projects! Embellishments of feathers, beads, and other found objects will further personalize their colorful pouch!

1 to 3pm: Recycled Art!

Let’s go green! Your child will spend three days compiling found objects, recycled gizmo parts, and saved household items to make truly one-of-a-kind pieces of sculpture, jewelry, or anything their imaginations dream up!

Tuesday, August 10th-Thursday, August 12th

9 to 11am: The “Me” Book: A Child’s Introduction to Scrapbooking and Paper Arts

Using colorful papers, glitter, ribbons and a disposable camera, kids in this class will create a “Me” scrapbook that captures who they are now! With photo and journaling prompts from ice cream flavors to high adventures, kids will craft their way to a priceless handmade album! This class is the perfect introduction to scrapbooking for children.

1 to 3pm: Exploring the Inner Clothing Designer: Children’s Tie-Dye

Pillowcases, aprons, and shirts: Oh my! Using different fabric dyeing techniques, children in this class will use bright colors to create individual and colorful designs. Everyone will wonder how your kids made all the colors dance!
