The Student Organization Oversight Committee consists of five BSG general assembly members who selected SOOC as their preferred committee, the VP for Student Organizations, and the BSG Treasurer. All of these general BSG members also sit on the Assembly. However, students not involved with BSG may also participate with the SOOC. SOOC meets in Lamarche Gallery every Tuesday at 7 pm.

Position: VP of Student Organizations; SOOC Chair
Info: HI! My name is Branden Asemah and I currently serve as the VP of Student Organizations. This is not only my second year serving on this committee, this also my second year at Bowdoin. I've been fortunate enough to lead this amazing committee, helping define its purpose and creating new ways to establish a community amongst Bowdoin students. Some ways we are working to accomplish this is by implementing new programs such as Club Leader Dinners (Spring 2010), Club Buddies (Spring 2010), and bringing back the Leadership Development Series (Spring 2010). Things we've already accomplished include: chartering about 10 new clubs, organizing the Poster Design Team and sample booklet, and restructuring the current club format. More things I am involved with on campus are the African-American Society, ResLife, and the Resource Center for Gender and Sexuality Diversity. If you ever see me around campus and have a question or just want to say hello, feel free. I promise I don't bite. If you prefer to just shoot me an email, that's fine too.

Position: VP of the Inter-House Council
Major: Biology (Teaching Minor)
Info: Hi! My name is Amanda and this is my first time serving on the SOOC. I've really enjoyed learning about new interests on campus as we work to charter clubs, but more importantly, I'm really excited to get to know the clubs that are already such a huge part of Bowdoin life. I am the contact person for all of the art, theatre, dance, music, and community service groups. I also co-lead the Community SPOT as we do lots of one-time service events, share my knowledge of Financial Aid with high school students as a member of College Students for College, am a part of Bowdoin Students Embracing Disabilities, and will be on BSG as the VP of the Inter-House Council in the spring. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me or stop to say HI if you see me around campus.
Name: Jack Hilzinger '12
E-mail: jhilzing@bowdoin.edu
Info: Hi, my name is Jack Hilzinger, and I am sophomore. I am originally from outside of Philadelphia, and I have loved being in Maine for the past year. On campus, you are most likely to find me working in the Café, hanging out in the gym, or goofing off with my friends in Stowe Inn. I enjoyed my time serving the student body on BSG last year, and I am finding it just as rewarding this year. In regards to the SOOC, I specialize in political and debate focused clubs as well as in special interest centered clubs. The SOOC exists to support student organizations, so please do not hesitate to contact me! I would be more than happy to address any questions or concerns that you might have.

Info: Hi, my name is Derek Brooks, an At-Large Representative. This is my second year on the BSG, and I am stoked to serve on the SOOC. Outside of student government, you may see me on stage, up in the stacks, or basically anywhere where I can get some work done. I am originally from California so you will most likely find me in any warm spot on campus. I love to chat so don’t be afraid to stop me on the quad to ask a question!
Name: Peggy Zhao '13
E-mail: pzhao@bowdoin.edu
Info: Hi, I'm Peggy. I am from Brooklyn, NY and I am one of the 2013 Class Representatives. Part of the reason why I am on the SOOC is so I can help regular students at Bowdoin charter and develop their clubs so that they can be fully sustainable. I am always available if you need help with chartering a club or making a club even better so you can shoot me an email or just Facebook me! Just ask and I will help! In addition, I am always lounging around Smith Union or hanging out in Osher Hall, so stop on by if you want to chat. I might also just serve you lunch at Moulton Union so do not freak out! Just introduce yourself to me and I promise I won't bite. We might even share a cup of hot cocoa while you teach me how to bike (yes, I really do not know how to bike). Who knows where it could go?
Name: Kyle Dempsey '11

Position: BSG Treasurer; SAFC Chair
Major: Bio-Chemistry
Info: I’m a member of the 2011 class and have served as my class’s treasurer and on the SAFC for the past two years. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the campus’s many club leaders, and I’ve enjoyed helping these clubs financially to support students’ great ideas. You’ll probably see me around campus doing various things with the McKeen Center, working at the information desk, working out at the Buck Center, tutoring for chemistry, or floating around the Moore Hall dormitory as a proctor. Please don’t ever hesitate to contact me, if you have any questions about the SAFC or if you have any suggestions for the SAFC process. We changed many things this year to make the funding process less intimidating and more transparent, but I know there is always room to improve. My hope is that you will never hesitate to contact me with any critiques or suggestions on how we can improve our service to the student body.
